Textural Paintings
These works add dimensional depth for accent. The painting changes subtly when lit from different directions and when seen from different angles.

Sailboat in Antigua, 39” x 25” acrylic on canvas This painting began with an emphasis on the horizon. I was impressed with the way light converged there. Much like a train on the rails, the sailboat travels on. Life abounds where states of matter meet: water and shore, air and water, earth and sky. The boat in this painting, however small, triumphantly gathers air to move its solid body through the sea of water.

Sunrise at Carolina Beach, 24” x 18” acrylic on canvas (SOLD) Texture and color are coordinated to express the dance of light around, upon and within the ocean waves. There is order and randomness in nature. Incoming waves appear to arrive systematically, yet each is unique.

Cosmos by the Sea, Maine, 35” x 27” acrylic on canvas (SOLD) I am enchanted by the way flowering plants take on a softly pastel look when they grow by the sea.

Little Green Heron, Florida 24" x 18" acrylic on canvas (SOLD) As in the Great Blue Heron painting, my intent is to capture the sensation of being in the swamp—semi-stagnant water with life and debris scintillates in reflective light.

Great Blue Heron, Florida 24" x 18" acrylic on canvas (SOLD) Heavily textured paintings are more two-dimensional than three. In these works, I focus on the subtleties of how texture and color coordinate, coexist and/or clash.

Lion Fish, 12” round acrylic on wood, (view from center) (SOLD) This work was carved down with wood-cutting tools and built up with thick acrylic paint. The colors harmonize with the sculptural relief to suggest flickering light and flow.
